This is kind of one of those fun posts I always want to write but never had the time. As I was walking through our shop, I saw this folk art music piece that I picked a while back. It reminded me of an Immunity Necklace on the TV Show Survivor. Hubby got me hooked on the show a while back.
Mike and I just both had the same thought of how the antique business is like that TV show.
In the beginning everyone is your friend and welcoming – creating alliances through networking. Then as time goes on, alliances become smaller – people get squeezed out. Then there is betrayal, double-crossing and even slander going on. Am I right? And then you have to worry about the blindsides. Oh boy, those are tough. But so am I.
And then there are the challenges. The strongest and most determined will win and I have won quite a few challenges. But I’m not done in this business. I just have to learn how to build a fire faster than my opponents. You will have to watch a finale of the Survivor TV Show to understand what I mean.
But who are the winners in this antique buying world game? I suppose one would say it is the person or person(s) who has amassed the most treasures or has the most barns and storage sheds filled to the brim. I say the winner is the person or person(s) who can outwit, outplay and outlast the others.
And just to be clear, this is not directed to anyone in particular – just observations based on facts. Just having some fun. Sometimes you just gotta say what’s on your mind and go with it.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
